The R.W. Sorrell
Scholarship Fund

The R.W. Sorrell Scholarship Fund is a 501C-3 tax-exempt organization that was created to promote and support higher education goals for minority students throughout the following five Delaware Valley Counties: Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia.

Accepting Scholarship Applications
February 15 – March 29, 2025

The RW Sorrell Scholarship Fund will begin to accept applications from high school graduating seniors seeking scholarships to a four-year accredited college/university to subsidize tuition, books and other college-related expenses for the 2025 -2026 school term. The solicitation period begins February 15 and ends on March 29, 2025.

 

Applications may be submitted here on our website or mailed to our postal address at: R.W. Sorrell Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 26701, Elkins Park, PA 19027.  

 

Please submit your application beginning February 15 to be considered for a scholarship during the 2025-2026 school term. Online applications received after March 29, or mailed applications postmarked after the March 29, 2025 deadline, will not be considered.

 

Along with your completed application form, please upload a current resume, a 500-600 word essay, two (2) references and a copy of your high school transcript.  In addition, an official copy of your high school transcript must be signed by an authorized school official and mailed to us in a sealed envelope.

The Fund

Robert W. Sorrell was founder and President of R.W. Sorrell Enterprises, LLC. specializing in diversity and fundraising consultation.  Bob began his career as an educator, teaching mathematics and coaching basketball, but discovered his niche within human services and civil rights: The Urban League Movement.  He served as the Deputy Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Urban League and CEO of the Philadelphia Urban League.  At the latter, Bob started the State of Black Philadelphia Report to encourage leaders to join the Urban League, implemented new programs and services, and instituted the Urban League Young Professionals and Leadership Institute.  Bob also expanded the Urban League Guild.
