Congratulations to the R.W. Sorrell Scholarship Fund Award Recipients!
2024 Awardees
The R.W. Sorrell Scholarship Fund awarded a $5,000, four-year, renewable scholarship to two (2) high school graduates: Jada L. Boose (Merion Mercy Academy) and Bryson Cherry (Upper Merion Area High School). In addition, SirNira Davis-Burke (Parkway Center City Middle College) was the recipient of the R.W. Sorrell 2024 Annual Book Award in the amount of $1,500.
The Scholarship Fund also renewed its commitment of a four-year annual scholarship of $5,000 to six (6) students who were award recipients following their graduation from high school in 2021 (2), 2022 (3) and 2023 (1). These students are returning to the following colleges/universities for the fall semester as rising seniors, juniors and sophomores: Howard University (3), Temple University (1), Penn State (1), and Rowan University (1).
We also congratulate Nadiyah Bell, who graduated from Howard University, Derrick Dow who graduated from Hampton University, and Malachi Neal who graduated from Purdue University, in May of 2024. Nadiyah, Derrick and Malachi were all 2020 high school graduates and recipients of a four-year renewable scholarship from the R.W. Sorrell Scholarship Fund.
2023 Awardees
The R.W. Sorrell Scholarship Fund awarded a $5,000, four-year, renewable scholarship to high school graduate, Ricando Davis (Cheltenham High School). In addition, Caleb K. High (Roman Catholic High School) and Grace Barlow (Abington Friends School) are each the recipient of the R.W. Sorrell 2023 Annual Book Award in the amount of $1,500.
The Scholarship Fund also renewed its commitment of a four-year annual scholarship of $5,000 to seven (7) students who were award recipients following their graduation from high school in 2020 (2), 2021 (2) and
2022 (3). These students are returning to the following colleges/universities for the fall semester as rising seniors, juniors and sophomores: Howard (3), Penn State (1), Purdue (1), Rowan (1) and Temple (1).
We also congratulate Mariama Gackou, who graduated from Penn State University in May of 2023. Mariama, a 2019 high school graduate, was the recipient of a four-year renewable scholarship from the R.W. Sorrell Scholarship Fund.

The R.W. Sorrell Scholarship Fund awarded scholarships to two (2) high school graduates: D'Nyah Jefferson-Philmore (Academy at Palumbo) and Micai Lilliston (Phil-Mont Christian Academy). Each graduate is the recipient of a $5,000, four-year, renewable scholarship. In addition, Upper Moreland High School graduate, Sadiyah Sabir is the recipient of the R.W. Sorrell 2022 Annual Book Award in the amount of $1,500.

In 2021, the R.W. Sorrell Scholarship Fund awarded scholarships to two (2) high school graduates: Kayla Banks (Cheltenham High School) and Sage Tawfeeq (Springfield Township High School). Each graduate is the recipient of a $3,000, four-year, renewable scholarship.
The Scholarship Fund also renewed its commitment of a four-year annual scholarship of $3,000 to seven (7) students who were award recipients following their graduation from high school in 2018 (3), 2019 (2), and 2020 (2). These students are returning to the following colleges / universities for the fall semester as rising seniors, juniors and sophomores: Hampton (2), Howard, Penn State (2), Purdue and Spelman.
Additionally, we congratulate the following R.W. Sorrell Scholarship recipients who graduated from college in the spring of 2021: Alexa Green (Xavier University), Amira Martin (Villanova University) and Darren Laws Jr. (Widener University).
2020 Awardees
In 2020, the R.W. Sorrell Scholarship Fund awarded scholarships to two (2) high school graduates: Nadiyah Bell, Cheltenham High School and Malachi Neal, Upper Darby High School. Each graduate is the recipient of a $3,000, four-year, renewable scholarship. In addition, Girard Academic Music Program graduate, Lauryn Reynolds is the recipient of the R.W. Sorrell 2020 Annual Book Award in the amount of $1,500.
The Scholarship Fund also renewed four-year scholarships at $3,000 each to seven (7) students who are attending the following schools: Bloomsburg, Penn State, Widener, Villanova, Hampton, Xavier and University of Pennsylvania.
We also congratulate Kevin Yang, a 2016 R.W. Sorrell Scholarship recipient who graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in May 2020 and Brandon Mole, a 2015 Scholarship recipient who graduated from Penn State University in December 2019.
